Getting tiling right

Good tiling is mostly invisible work. The subfloor has to be level and sound, wet areas have to be waterproofed before a single tile goes down, and the layout has to be set out so cuts fall in the right places and joints line up. Large-format and natural-stone tiles raise the stakes — they need flatter substrates and more skill to lay without lipping. This is exactly why we use verified tilers and sign off the preparation before tiling begins.

What tiling costs in Malta

Tiling is usually costed per square metre, with labour and materials separate. As a current guide for Malta:

• Labour typically runs around €20–€40 per m², depending on tile size, layout and surface prep.
• Tiles range widely — roughly €15–€30 per m² for ceramic and porcelain, and €40–€80+ per m² for natural stone and marble.
• Large-format tiles, intricate patterns and natural stone sit at the higher end of labour, because they demand more precise preparation and skill.
• Add surface prep, levelling, adhesive, grout and waterproofing (essential under wet areas).
• Book-matched marble and porcelain slabs — the Ultimate Designer specification — sit higher again, at roughly €52–€80 per m² labour with the slab material itself at €75–€150 per m².
